The University Hospital Brno was founded in 1998 by joining three existing hospitals. Nowadays, the Brno University Hospital is one of the biggest hospitals in the Czech Republic considering the volume of care provided. In February 2007 the Brno University Hospital obtained the Quality Certificate as the first among other hospitals in the Czech Republic. The hospital is located next to the campus of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University in Brno, with which it closely cooperates and serves as the faculty hospital for the education of new physicians.
Description of cooperation
The main topic of collaboration is the research of new semi-automatic and automatic methods for analyzing spatial and dynamic image data obtained by non-invasive methods of human body imaging. There are many imaging techniques, and the most important ones are magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasonography (US) and computer tomography (CT). The general effort is to speed up the analysis and reduce the human mistakes by using computer-aided analysis when establishing the patient’s diagnosis. The segmentation of medical images is the main problem due to the complexity of images. It arises especially during simultaneous imaging of both soft and hard tissues of the human body. The modern methods of 2D and 3D digital signal processing are applied together with artificial intelligence techniques including evolutionary and genetic programming. The computer-aided analysis can help physicians to improve the accuracy and speed of the diagnosis of patients.
