The International Institute for Advanced Scientific Studies (IIASS) is an institute dealing with the processing and analysis of speech and image signals, neural networks, and with psychological research into the appearance and recognition of emotions. The group consists of researchers and MSc students of the Institute of Psychology, Second University of Naples and the Institute of Physics, University of Salerno. The Institute is involved in organizing COST international conferences (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) which are focused on multimodal analysis of verbal and nonverbal communication. The results obtained are regularly published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Springer):
- 2010 Development of Multimodal Interfaces: Active Listening and Synchrony
- 2009 Multimodal Signals: Cognitive and Algorithmic Issues
- 2009 Biometric ID Management and Multimodal Communication
- 2009 Cross-Modal Analysis of Speech, Gestures, Gaze and Facial Expressions
- 2008 Verbal and Nonverbal Features of Human-Human and Human-Machine Interaction
- 2007 Verbal and Nonverbal Communication Behaviours
Description of cooperation
The long-term collaboration consists of several-month internships of doctoral students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication, Brno University of Technology at the International Institute for Advanced Scientific Studies in Vietri sul Mare, Italy. Since 2006 six students of FEEC have visited the IIASS, three of them successfully defended their PhD thesis. In the frame of these visits nine articles focusing on digital processing and analysis of audio and video signals have been published.
