Description

Objective analysis of subtle hand movements during drawing or writing exercises is one of the novel methods for quantification of hand-movement damage caused by the presence of some neurodegenerative disease such as Parkinson’s disease, or for monitoring of drawing/writing quality assessment of the children population (e.g. for the children dysgraphia assessment), etc. Digitizing tablet data capturing tool provides users with an easy way to capture the hand-related movements of so called digitizing stylus: on the surface (e.g. capturing pressure, azimuth, elevation, etc.) or off surface (e.g. rest-state tremor of hand) during drawing/writing exercises.

Generated data can be stored as *.csv files and consequently loaded/visualized by the tool. When the data are visualized, automatic stroke-segmentation is performed do segment the data to strokes on-surface and off-surface. It is also possible to set the automatic saving and deleting of the data. The tool is developed using Python programming language. A testing *.csv file is also provided for easy visualization and testing purposes. The tool is built on the wintab package, available here: cgkit (wintab). It is also developed to be modular and in the future it can be (it is planned to be) extended to provide captured signal analysis.
