Ph.D. Position in Biomedical Image Processing / Statistical Signal Processing 10.2.2017 0:00

category:

The Department of Telecommunications, Brno University of Technology (Brno, Czech Republic) announces a full-time Ph.D. (doctoral student) position in the areas of Biomedical Image Processing and Statistical Signal Processing. The position is funded by the GACR research project “Sequential Bayesian Estimation of Arterial Wall Motion,” which is directed by Prof. Franz Hlawatsch (TU Wien and Brno University of Technology) and Prof. Kamil Riha (Brno University of Technology).

The project “Sequential Bayesian Estimation of Arterial Wall Motion” is a joint effort of the Signal Processing Laboratory, Department of Telecommunications, Brno University of Technology (http://splab.cz/en/) and the Signal Processing Group, Institute of Telecommunications, TU Wien, Vienna, Austria (https://www.nt.tuwien.ac.at/research/signal-processing/ and https://www.nt.tuwien.ac.at/about-us/staff/franz-hlawatsch/). The new approach pursued in the project is to develop Bayesian random finite set methods for the estimation and tracking of the time-varying geometry of arteries, based on measured ultrasound video sequences. At a more general level, the project aims at developing expertise in statistical signal processing and relevant mathematical tools. The project duration is three years.

We look for a talented and passionate researcher who will work on the state-space modelling of the movement of the arterial wall and the tracking of scatterers using known and new methods of Bayesian statistical signal processing. Interested candidates should hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics. Applications of Master’s students in the final stage of their studies will also be considered. A strong mathematical background and good written and oral communication skills in English are a must; expertise in statistical signal processing is helpful. The gross salary is 31000,- CZK per month. The start date is as soon as possible.

Applications should be sent by email to Assoc. Prof. Kamil Riha (rihak@feec.vutbr.cz). Applications will be considered until a suitable candidate has been found.
